Measuring Insulation Resistance of
Capacitors
How can a megohmmeter be used characterize a capacitor? The impedance
parameters of a passive component are measured using an LCR meter. Not always
so. The capacitor's dielectric material is subjected to DC resistance tests to
measure its quality and subjected to high voltage tests to determine its
breakdown. The QuadTech 1865 Megohmmeter/IR Tester is ideally suited to IR
testing of capacitors. [Full Text:

Measuring Large Capacitors with the
1865-52 Component Test Fixture
Measuring the
insulation resistance of capacitors with the 1865 Megohmmeter is possible using
the 1865-52 Component test fixture. This test fixture has interchangeable
modules for leaded devices, SMD devices plus 100kW
and 1MW quieting resistors and associated cables. A
safety interlock prevents the operation of the test fixture with the cover
open. [Full Text:

Characteristic Cable Impedance (1600
Series)
Can the
impedance of coaxial cable be accurately measured? The 1600 Series Digibridges
can do it! Measuring the open circuit and short circuit impedance of the cable
and substituting them into an equation will yield the cable's characteristic
impedance. [Full Text:

Connection
of Isolation Transformer to Safety Tester
IEC 60601-1 specifies the isolation of the mains supply from the
circuit under test to determine the worst-case leakage current. How is this
done in an earth leakage current test? This application note illustrates the
connection of an isolation transformer to a G6100 Electrical Safety
Analyzer. [Full Text:

QuadTech
Partners with UL Knowledge Solutions |
| |
|
QuadTech, Inc. and
Underwriters
Laboratories (UL) have entered into an agreement to jointly market UL's
Knowledge Programs for the Medical Industry. The first co-sponsored seminar is
'Designing and Testing for Compliance to IEC 60601-1', a newly developed two day
comprehensive study of IEC 60601-1. |
| |
 |
This technical seminar will be facilitated by experienced UL
Engineers and encompasses the National Deviations for the U.S. (UL 60601-1),
Canada (CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 601.1) and the European Union (EN 60601-1). Learn how
to write design and purchase specifications for critical components, generate
insulation diagrams and what worldwide certification entails. |
| |
|
|
The 'Designing and Testing for Compliance to IEC 60601-1' Seminar costs
$895 and will be offered in California in July and New Jersey in October 2003.
A copy of the UL Standard and Seminar Proceedings are included in this price.
Space is limited and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.

1864 Megohmmeter - Simply Indestructible
Chances are
that if you work on a flight line you've seen an 1864 Megohmmeter. This
steel-cased Meg is a workhorse in many aerospace applications. Used to check
insulation resistance on wire bundles on commercial aircraft fuel pumps and
hydraulic pump motors, the portable 1864 never quits. This versatile
megohmmeter has also been used to test the insulation resistance of ceramic,
mica and paper capacitors. Measurements can be made up to 200TW with test voltages from 10-1090V DC. Ground and guard
terminals permit measurement of grounded and ungrounded two- or three- terminal
resitors. An excellent megohmmeter by any standard. Find out for yourself by
visiting the
1864
product page. |
