| NEW UL 60950 & UL 61010 Seminars |
Education in your future? Two non-medical seminars have
been added to QuadTech and UL's 2005 schedule: Electrical Safety Testing of
IT Equipment per UL 60950-1 and Electrical Safety
Testing of
Measurement, Control and Laboratory Equipment per IEC
61010-1.
Taught by experienced UL Engineers, these seminars are
structured so that the participant gains technical competence through lecture
and discusssion, then applies this knowledge in practical applications
exercises. Topics for discussion include: critical clearance, creepage and
through-insulation distances, two-level protection, TNV circuit separation,
enclosure design, insulation diagrams and more.

Ground Bond
Testing per UL 60950 |
Have you ever
read UL 60950? Did you grasp how to do the ground bond test in paragraph 2.6.3?
Not an easy test, but this standard-specific discussion attempts to define
protective earth and the test methods associated with it. A few definitions, a
little clarification and two examples round out this application note. [Full

Testing
Filter Capacitors On Medical Devices |
Capacitance
verification seems like a job for an LCR meter but a hipot tester can do it
surprisingly well. EMI filter capacitors used on the interior side of
implantable medical devices (IMD's) need to be checked for connection and
leakage current. Discover how a hipot tester can do this using an implantable
cardiac defibrillator as an example. [Full Text:

Digibridge
Operation and Technique |
Ever wonder
what's inside an LCR meter or just how a digital bridge makes a measurement?
How is an analog voltage measurement used in calculating the impedance
parameters of the device under test? The information in this application note
will answer these questions with circuit design descriptions, block diagrams
and concise text. [Full Text:

| New 1855 Capacitor Leakage Current/IR Meter |
Once again, a customer inquired about the need for a
specific tester and we listened. QuadTech is pleased to add the new
1855 Capacitor Leakage Current/IR Meter to its
Megohmmeter family. In addition to leakage current and insulation resistance,
the 1855 measures rise time and withstand voltage in accordance with the EIAJ
RC-2364A standard on electrolytic capacitors.
The 1855 instrument provides powerful charge current up to
500mA and programmable source voltage to 650V DC plus insulation resistance
measurements from 10W to 99GW. Other features include: programmable charge and dwell
times, high & low test limits, auto ranging and measurement averaging. The
1855 comes standard with an RS232 interface plus it has an optional IEEE-488
& Handler interface for high speed automated measurements. Whether its
production line component testing or bench-top R&D testing, the 1855
Capacitor LC/IR Meter is right for the task. |

| Words of Encouragement for the Troops |
At the end of the year as we count our blessings, a simple
expression of thanks to the troops may mean more than any material good. Offer
a
word of encouragement to the hard working men and
women serving in the military around the world.
Operation Dear Abby, powered by
AnyServiceMember.Nav.Mil, is the best way to send a "Thank You" to the troops.
The military postal service is not accepting packages or letters addressed to
"Any Service Member" due to the sheer volume of mail. But you can still provide
encouragement, inspiration or a little laughter with a quick email
message. |

| Solve This: |
When is EST not Electrical Safety Testing?
Here
at QuadTech, EST means Electrical Safety Testing. In selling hipot testers with
as much as 20kV output, EST has to be our number one priority. Recently
however, several EST acronyms have been brought to our attention that have
nothing to do with electrical safety. Can you fathom this? If the suspense
is too great, today's
answer resides here. For a larger image of the
puzzle

The answer to last issue's Solve This Electrical
Safety Testing Word Search included 41 EST terms.
